BLUEBIRD COMMITTEE

The Bluebird Committee manages and maintains Bluebird trails in Essex County.  At the present time 8 trails and 27 Bluebird houses are maintained.  The houses are erected in open areas with short low growing vegetation like pastures, mowed lawns and cut fields.  The houses are cleaned of old nesting materials and debris before the next spring nesting season.  The committee takes special care to repair boxes, replacing if necessary from years of wear, putting pine needles in the box for nesting material, pine tarring posts to deter predators and relocating boxes if necessary if the particular trail is not doing well.  The committee will consult others who want to put up their own Bluebird trail.
