Memorial Trees Planted in Honour of Past Members

It is with great pleasure to share that memorial trees have been planted in honour of past members Betty Learmouth and Jim McAllister. This lovely tuliptree has been planted in honour of Betty Learmouth at Holiday Beach last week. An ideal spot for tuliptrees was carefully selected, where it was planted amongst the maples, where the soil is well drained (sandy loam) and where it will receive ample sunlight. Phrag Fighting Volunteer Taskforce in Action pt 2

Work continued on October 19, 2024 in our 3rd and final week at East Riverside Park/Blue Heron Pond. It proved to be a bit of a chilly, foggy morning but did not dampen the spirits or progress of the phrag fighters! Can't wait to see what it looks like next year.

Phrag Fighting Volunteer Taskforce in Action

This October the Phragmites Committee is focused on East Riverside Park (Blue Heron Pond) in the City of Windsor. The group is 2 weeks in and progress is being made. The team of eager volunteers waded out into the water and tackled this pesky invasive nuisance. Plant by plant we are making a difference. Big thanks to those who have helped out so far. Spotted Lantern Fly – Species of Concern

Be on the look out for the spotted lanternfly  (lycorma delicatula). This planthopper native to Southeastern Asia has become an invasive insect pest in the United States and is of concern that it could gain a foothold in Essex County. Several concerned residents reported it's appearance locally to CBC news confirming it's presence in the area. Lil’Reg and the Windsor Essex Nature Fund

For those that don't know, one of the ways the Club receives financial support is through the Windsor Essex Nature Fund, established by Lil'Reg through the Windsor Essex Community Foundation (WECF). The WECF is a community trust that helps community organizations, like our Club, manage and maximize their financial donations.  The Windsor Essex Nature Fund was recently highlighted the WECF September Newsletter, stating: "In the 1990’s, the Windsor Essex Community Foundation supported the tree/ shrub planting and river cleanup activities [...]
